First Chinese Language Mango Application Launched!

The “Xuyong Atlas” MangoMap application has been successfully launched to support the Poor Rural Communities Development Project (PRCDP) in Sichuan Province, China. This web-based mapping system provides a land cover, infrastructure and village basemap for Xuyong County linked to the project investments for the PRCDP. This is the first Chinese language MangoMap application; it provides provincial and county officials with a means to monitor and manage this poverty reduction project funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the World Bank and the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom.

Sichuan PRCDP Project Director Liu Weijia, Director of the Sichuan Provincial Poverty Reduction Office noted that the system “is interesting and will be very useful – we need to provide more data so that we can see how powerful it will really be!” Other comments from Government officials using the system include “It works! I am happy with the result.” “Ya, this is easy to use.” Development of the Xuyong Atlas was funded by DFID as a pilot project to improve effectiveness of aid investments to reduce poverty.
